Follow the steps in this installer - this will install IK Multimedia's Authorization Manager version 1.0.8, followed by SampleTank version 2.5.5.b.
When the Authorization Manager launches, get your serial number from the IK Multimedia website. If you don't authorize now, you can do it later from the SampleTank plugin interface. Install the Band-in-a-Box Hi-Q instruments (separate installation file/download).

IK Multimedia has released SampleTank 3 FREE, and it is available for download and use (Mac and Windows versions). SampleTank 3 is a 64-bit application and virtual instrument, so it works with NOTION running in 64-bit mode. NOTE: At present, I am using NOTION 4, and this is where I verified it.
SampleTank 3 supports the IK Multimedia Miroslav Philharmonik and other sampled sound libraries for the IK Multimedia SampleTank 2+ engine, where for reference the Miroslav Philharmonik virtual instrument engine actually is SampleTank 2+ but with a different graphic user interface (GUI) wrapper. NOTE: You need the full version of SampleTank 3 to import and to load the legacy sampled sound libraries, but the FREE version has a Grand Piano, which you can use for testing and as a Grand Piano, obviously. The download link is in the left column of the Sample Tank 3 Info page.
You might need to login to see it, and you need to register to use it, but otherwise it is straightforward as best as I can determine so far, and I had no problems downloading, installing, and authorizing it. NOTE: The Mac download is approximately 512MB, and at present it includes a new Grand Piano sampled sound library. SampleTank 3 FREE is a fully functional version of SampleTank 3 whose only limitation is the preset sound set. SampleTank 3 FREE starts with an extraordinary concert grand piano and will add more sounds each week until all instrument categories are represented.
Once you download SampleTank 3 FREE and install it, you need to authorize it, which is done using a license key that you get from your IK Multimedia User Area, where for reference if you do not already have an IK Multimedia User Account, then you need to create one, which also is free. You can copy the license key (a.k.a., 'serial number') from your IK Multimedia User Area and then paste it to the IK Multimedia Authorizer application that is used to authorize SampleTank FREE and other IK Multimedia applications, if you have any. It works smoothly on the Mac, which is the platform I use here in the sound isolation studio for digital music production, where at present I am running Mac OS X 10.9.4 (Mavericks) running a 2.8-GHz 8-core Mac Pro (Early 2008) with 20GB of system memory, which is fabulous. The Grand Piano is very nice!
