Just purchased a Dell Studio 1555 and installed fedora 11 on it. However, sound did not work, so after much searching I finally found an easy solution, which I'd like to share with other newbies having the same problem as me. I have no idea what it does or why it works, and why audio didn't work right after installing fedora. If there is an easy explanation I would like to know for the future. Audio solution Login as root Go to folder /etc/modprobe.d Create a new file and name it modprobe.conf (I copied another one, changed its name and deleted its content, just in case there was some permission issues or whatever) Add a new line. I already had to reinstall fedora because I apparently installed wrong drivers (went to AMD page, but got some problems during the installation) and had no idea as how to revert to the default drivers while on the console mode (mode 3 I think it's called).
So, where do I have to look for some working ATI 4570 drivers, so when they come out I can try them? (any link will be very welcome). Has anyone with this laptop be already able to install working graphics drivers? Hope in the future I will able to definitely remove Vista from my dual boot; ).
Click to expand.Yes, most of them are compatible with both 64-bit and 32-bit. When you download any 64-bit driver and execute the EXE, it pops up a message listing the compatible OS's (whether 32 or 64). I am on my desktop right now otherwise I would have told you exactly which ones are 32-bit supported.

If I'm not wrong there is a drop down box too in the driver detail page where you can see if its 32 or 64-bit compatible, or both. Btw, when 1555 is fully 64-bit compatible, why are you using 32-bit OS?
