I assume you are trying to install a stereo that normally does not come in a Ford, another brand. You are probably going to have to cut the connectors off, and match the wires up. It sounds hard but it is not that hard. With the connectors off you will just locate which wire goes where and twist them together and use a small wire nut or tape. Or if you want to be elaborate get a male and female connector for each wire.

Normally black will be the ground and red or yellow will be the hot wire. If you stereo has a battery back up or a light that stays on all the time this would be the reason why both the red and yellow would be hot. So, if this is the case with your stereo one would be tied to a wire that is hot all the time and the other would be tied to a wire that comes on when your ignition is turned on. Most speakers wires are gray, green, blue, purple, and the solid colors are the (+) and the same colors with a black stripe are the (-) to the speakers. Some may be blue and then blue with a green stripe, but never would a red or black or yellow go to a speaker.

If you will post a list of the colors of wires from each connector I can help you match them up. I have hooked up many a stereo when I did not know which wire went where. The best way to start is remove both connectors by cutting the wires as close to the connectors as you can. Then find a screw near where the radio fits into the dash, a screw that touches metal. This can be your ground and you will loosen the screw and wrap the black wire around the screw and tighten it. Now you may have a red wire that has a fuse. That would be your hot line.

Go to autozone and get a test light. It is nothing but a small socket with two wires and a small bulb. Maybe $3.00 cost. When you touch one end to a ground and the other end to a hot wire the bulb lights up.

This is how you locate the hot wire to connect to the radio. Like I said it should be a yellow or red. Put one wire of the test light to the ground (that screw) and touch the other end to a wire that you think is hot. Then turn on your ignition key.

If you have the right wire the bulb will light up. I had a Aiwa stereo that had alot more wires than were in the car.

I located their website, called their tech support and they told me over the phone which wires went where. You could try that for your brand of radio. Also, alot of them have a diagram on the radio itself or in the box.

Another choice is go to this forum and ask a mechanic. If you are trying to install a strange brand (I mean non Ford) radio into a Ford the connectors are never going to match and you will need cut the wires and match them up.

Radio

Like I said if you will post the colors of all your wires on both ends I can try to help you more. It may be a slightly tedious job but once you get the wires cut and start matching them up, it goes quick.

Almost any stereo will go in any car. I put a Honda radio in my Toyota and the wire harnesses were no where close to each other. A Ford manual or a Chilton on your vehicle could have the diagram for the wires in the car-truck. So all you need to do then is find out where each wire on the stereo itseld goes and match them up, left speaker wire on the radio to left speaker wire in the car, etc. There are two connectors on the radio, one is a long grey strip (which matches up for all of the power connections). The speakers appear to be all in the square black one. In the morning i'll take a look and see if i can find wires with those colors.

I see what you're saying about the color with black stripe as being the negative, if i find those colors i can cut them one at a time and see what speaker reacts to it. But i'm not cutting all the wires! Wow that would be a problem;-) Thanks for the help so far. I appreciate it.
